Brescia Food and Nutrition program is designed to help students gain a holistic understanding of nutrition

Brescia University College is a private, Catholic university that specializes in educating women. Established in 2000, the all-women’s campus has grown to a student population of more than 1,200 full-time and 200 part-time students. Since then, the college has continued to expand its mission of providing a high quality education in a diverse and engaging environment. As an all-female institution, the university encourages women to engage in the community and develop leadership skills.

The Brescia Food and Nutrition program is designed to help students gain a holistic understanding of nutrition and food. The curriculum is interactive and allows students to build relationships with peers and faculty. It also provides an opportunity to participate in a wide variety of community volunteer programs. Students can work with local food manufactures, farmers, and organizations to get hands-on experience with food production. This allows students to learn more about the role of the food industry in society, societal determinants of health, and the chemical composition of foods.

Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible for registration as a Registered Dietitian in Canada. Graduates are also qualified to enter the professional regulating body, the College of Dietitians of Ontario. Through a practicum, students are able to gain experience in the field of dietetics.

Students at Brescia have the advantage of learning from top-notch, award-winning professors who are dedicated to their education. These faculty members will provide students with critical thinking and analytical skills, guiding them in the evaluation of nutritional merits of food products.

The Brescia Food and Nutrition Program is recognized as one of the best in the country. TheĀ program is accredited by the Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice. Graduates can go on to obtain a Master of Science in Foods and Nutrition and, if they wish, pursue a PhD.

The School of Food and Nutritional Sciences is dedicated to providing a vibrant and dynamic learning environment for all students. Faculty members are passionate about helping students explore the fundamentals of nutrition, as well as the more advanced topics. Dedicated staff are committed to teaching and preparing students for a successful career.

Students have the opportunity to participate in several student clubs and activities, including the Nutrition Ignition club, FRESH (Food and Recreation for Environmental Sustainability), and the Food and Health Club. These clubs and activities encourage students to get involved in their communities, enhancing their resumes as they prepare for internship programs. Other clubs include the Women’s Student Association, the Student Alumni Association, and the Young Alumnae Awards of Merit.

There are also merit-based scholarships available. Brescia has a long-standing tradition of educating women. Among the award-winning alumnae are Stephanie Atkinson, who was awarded the Carmelle Murphy Alumnae Award of Distinction, and Jennifer Broxterman, who graduated from the Foods and Nutrition program. She was also awarded the Young Alumnae Award of Merit.

The campus is located on beautiful grounds, next to the University of Western Ontario. Brescia is known for its high-quality classrooms and hands-on practical learning.
